TIME BENDS

In this concert, time bends in many ways. The two works presented come from worlds 400 years apart, and yet attempt to answer many of the same questions.

Commissioned by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Peter Hannan's "Runs deep, bends time" is about the cycles of life — and the disruptions to these cycles — with texts by the composer himself inspired by Boccaccio's depiction of the 1348 bubonic plague, the COVID-19 pandemic, gun violence and the atrocities of MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls). "Runs deep, bends time" also contains musical references to the Victoria "Requiem", the companion piece on this program.

Please be sure to download the digital program which contains all of the texts, translations and program notes.
